Corn is such an integral part of our heritage that its growth and production in Mexico is currently protected by a presidential decree that no one can grow GMO corn in Mexico. The Mexican government is currently working to make this part of the Constitution. This is meant to protect the biodiversity of the many species of corn that are native to, and were first cultivated in, Mexico. It is also meant to protect Mexico’s food sovereignty.
